ADA? We Got You! Six Steps to Accessibility at Enchanted

Being disabled and going to festivals is difficult. I am able to walk and stand for short periods of time, so when you see me I look completely normal because I have invisible disabilities. Unless of course you have x-ray vision. My first overnight events left me almost entirely immobile within hours of my arrival. After my first summer of gatherings I found a free wheelchair online. Then I figured out if my legs wouldn’t work the way I needed them to, it was time for new ones. That’s when I met LEGZ the mobility scooter. Because of the accessibility LEGZ has given me, I have come to learn a few important things about festivals and accessibility that must be shared. If you are alter-abled, these tips can help us to help you have a wonderful weekend at Enchanted.

Get To Know Your Needs

When preparing for Enchanted Forest Gathering, it is important to be aware of your specific needs. People with invisible disabilities are often misjudged, so learning how to ask for what you need can make the difference between an enjoyable experience and a not so enjoyable one. Whether you have mobility issues, you are hearing impaired, or you have a disability with other specific needs, how your abilities are affected is important and is something only the individual can know. All festivals are hard on your body especially when you have to walk miles in a weekend just to make it to all the stages and environments. I for one cannot walk those miles so I need LEGZ, what are your needs?

Know Your Rights

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities(.)” You have a right to ask for what you need as a person with disabilities. EFG holds space for ADA attendees with accessible ADA Camping and bathrooms. We care about all our attendees and will do our best to keep you comfortable. Stop by the Info HQ booth, near the Nourishment Nook food court, if you need any assistance or help finding ADA camping or services.

If you need assistance email us now so we can plan ahead. Whether you have mobility issues, you are hearing impaired, or any handicap we want to accommodate you. To make accommodation easier for all, it is best to email before with any specific needs you may have. Enchanted Forest has provided ASL interpreters to be made available to attendees who are hearing impaired, you can email us or stop by the Info HQ to request to have ASL services at a set or workshop you don’t want to miss.

Bring Backup Mobility Assistance

We all know festivals can be hard on our body so it is important not to underestimate the the importance of a bicycle, a wheelchair, a cane, a walker, walking stick, or anything that will give you the freedom to enjoy all that Enchanted Forest Gathering and Black Oak Ranch has to offer. Please be sure to know the regulations when it comes to what types of wheels to bring by visiting the FAQ on the website.

We look forward to welcoming you home this weekend!
